Helen: Chapter 8

The more than familiar voice...

I turned around, "Hey..."

"You ruining your dress again... you know Eileen will be scolding you..."

Him, such a caring one...

"Don't worry, I can stand it" I laughed.

He smiled. Just charming. His killer smile mesmerized me every single time.

I held up my right hand, showing the note he wrote.

"Why do you want to meet?" I asked calmly.

He gave a deep sigh and sat down beside me.

"You'll ruin your clothes too." I whispered in his ear.

"Really? I don't care thou." He whispered back.

I giggled, followed by a laugh from the both of us.

Then, we were silent, looking straight forward at the campus scenery.

"Helen..." He said my name... it was almost a sigh.

"Hmm?"

"Helen," he turned towards me. I didn't look at him.

"Give the both of us a chance." He waited for me to react.

I just shook my head.

"I know, your mind tells you that we are not suppose to be together. But we love each other, and you know it." He said with a soft tone, his right hand pulling me closer to him.

I just sat there like a rag doll. Expressionless.

"It's just not right... sir." The words came out of my mouth.

"I know it's not wrong, that's what I know. Hey," He caressed my face. The warmth of his hand...

"Sir, your... you're a teacher and I'm a student." I shoved his hand away. 7 years of age difference wasn't a problem, but a teacher and a student? It was a relationship I thought I would never go into, and yet...

"I can't be with you... You know what will other people think..." I trailed off.

"It isn't wrong for us to love each other." He was talking with a soft voice, yet, it was firm and determined.

"As mushy as I'm going to be, I'll be honest here. Ever since that day you said it was over, I tried to be positive. Saying to myself it was just not meant to be. But whenever I see you, I still think, know, believe that we are meant to be. And that you were wrong. I ask to meet you so that I can persuade you to believe that we should have a chance." He looked into my eyes.

Yeah, he meant every word he said.

Going closer to him, I gave him a peck on the cheek. Why not go on? I love him.

"You're really bad at being mushy. But you have beautiful eyes." I smirked.

Laughing, he stood up. The water dripped furiously, a puddle emerged. From where I'm sitting, I looked up at the tower figure beside me, the light from above blinding my eyes.

He held out his right hand, "miss Helen, may I have this dance?"

Gladly, I nodded and let him help me up.

Facing each other, just a few inches apart we stood.

"Ready?" He asked.

"Yes, sire." I answered and he started humming.

Wet from toes up to the waist, the two of us danced, leaving small puddles of water everywhere.

"You're going to get a cold tomorrow." He said as I twirled.

"Aren't you the same?"

Helen: Chapter 7

As I walked pass the dorms, I realized that it was so quiet. Most of the girls were out or they went to bed early. The girls here either go for gatherings or need lots of sleep, believe me, it's a culture here. We recharge either way.

Walking past the dorms, the basketball court appeared. No one was there and the lights were off.

Looking at the empty bleachers...

The nights we spent together...
Just the two of us...

You showing off your basketball skills...
Me cheering when you score a point...

Us sitting together...
Under the twinkling stars...

It was just like a dream...

It is the past. I must look forward...

Why are you meeting him anyway... shoot... why conflict?!

Just this last time...

Just past the basketball, a few meters away was the swimming pool.

Taking my time, I strolled until I reached the poolside. Turning around, I see no one.

Sitting down at the pool, my small blue dress soaked in the chlorine water.

playing with the water with my finger, I got lost in the small waves formed on the surface of the calm pool.

"Hey..." A voice sounded behind me.

Helen: Chapter 6

"Helen, we're going to the movies, do you want to come along?" Zoe asked after history class.

I shook my head and gave them a smile.

"Why?" Eileen bugged in and pouted.

"Just don't feel like it. Anyway, I have to go out tonight." I said with a smirk.

"Ooo~ someone has a date!" Zoe teased.

"Nah, I'm going to meet up with an old friend." I said, giving a poker face.

"Awe... It's such a pity you can't go..." Eileen pouted even more.

"You gals go have fun, alright? I'll go the next time. Like... next week?"

The two finally nodded in agreement.

"So I'll see you two later. Gotta hand in this assignment before Miss Kayla starts nagging." Eileen waved goodbye and ran towards the office.

"So... What's up?" Zoe asked like she always do.

"Nothing much. Just feeling a little gloomy today."

"You know you'll have someone to talk to, okay?" She patted my back. Just like what a big sis would do to comfort her little sister.

I nodded vigorously and smiled. She and Eileen... what would I do without them... They're my best friends, closest friends... my family...

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
It was 6 o'clock in the evening. Music class ended and it's the end of the day's looong schooling.
I took a long shower while the other girls rushed for their night out.
By the time I got ready, it was already 7 o'clock.
The dorm was empty.
Taking a deep breath, I went out of the room and headed towards the poolside...
Helen: Chapter 5
{Helen's PointOfView}
"Hey... Helen... that's him again!" My two best friends teased me.
It was already a month after school started. These two gals have been teasing me, pairing me up with "him" ever since that day "he" said "hi" to me. It was a little embarrassing but bearable. Hey, they're my best friends, we do that all the time and it's fun. We laughed at the crazy thoughts that pops up.
Except this time, it's a little different for me...
"Who?" I pretended and played along.
"There! The one in white." Eileen pulled my sleeve. I looked harder towards the field, playing curious.
Yeah, it was him again.
"Him" was the one that I left two days before Christmas.
My heart ached at the sight of him. Why does he keep appearing? Then again, he's always in the school. It's unavoidable.
I turned away my head to stop myself from tearing up.
"I think we're going to be late." I said while looking at my watch. I wanted to get back into the class for computing lesson as soon as possible.
...so that I won't cry...
"Come on! Miss Kay will be mad at us!" I pulled the both of them.
@@
In class, I was just staring at the computer screen. I never registered what Miss Kay was saying. My ears were blocked and my mind was just flashing the times we were together. Beautiful memories with him that were... just too short.
Yes,
I have never forgotten about him.
I was never over him.
I still love him.
No... Wake up girl! Shaking my head, I made myself focus in class.
It was never meant to be... It never was...
Helen: Chapter 4
"It's Christmas!" Eileen shook the two girls to wake them up.
"Wha...?" Zoe asked but went back to sleep immediately.
"Hmm..." Helen was still in her dreamland.
"Wake up!" Eileen shook the two girls harder.
"Alright... I'm awake..." Zoe said with a tired tone, "You don't need to make an earthquake!"
"Morning!" Eileen greeted Zoe.
"I'm hungry." Zoe pouted.
"Go brush your teeth!" Eileen ordered. After she shoved Zoe to the toilet, she went to her next target.
Helen was still in a deep sleep. Eileen noticed her puffy eyes and knew.
She had cried all night after everyone else was asleep.
"You sleep a little more," she whispered and put another blanket for the sleeping girl.
"Ahh.... Christmas!" Zoe came out of the toilet and stretched.
"Shhhh..." Eileen shushed her and pulled her out of the room. Closing the door, Eileen then took Zoe downstairs to have breakfast.
Helen: Chapter 3
"You gals want hot chocolate?" Eileen asked when they were in the living room.
"I want one, with extra chocolate. Please." Zoe's eyes sparkled at the word "chocolate".
Helen nodded and kept quiet. She was still sobbing.
"Jelly, what's going on?" Zoe asked while Eileen went to the kitchen.
"Nothing. I'm Jelly." Helen smiled, her heart ached, thinking about him.
"There must be something. I know you." Zoe tried.
"Yea. We've been together for too long." Eileen came out with three cups of hot chocolate.
"Seriously, you guys worry too much." Helen took a marshmallow and continued, "I wanna watch that movie you said!"
"That, later. You, now." Zoe was strict.
"Alright, you win. I don't feel like talking about it." Helen smirked. Her tears were dried now. Talking to Zoe and Eileen was the only way she won't think about him. The reason was they never knew about him, she never told them.
"Okay, you've defeated us." Eileen rolled her eyes and went to the DVD player with a DVD in her hand. It was a movie the three randomly picked from the rental store. It was titled "The Holiday" starring Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet.
"You really sure you don't want to talk about it?" Eileen asked Helen, eying her.
"Nope." Helen drank her hot chocolate.
"Okay." Eileen pressed the "start" button after making herself comfortable on the sofa beside Helen. The three snuggled together, watching the movie and enjoying the hot chocolate.
Helen: Chapter 2
"Five minutes to the show!" Samantha called out to the performers. She was the timekeeper, making sure the people on this project are on time.
"Helen!" Eileen pulled her and made her sit down on a chair.
"You haven't put on your make up! We only have 5 minutes!" Eileen took the makeup kit and helped Helen.
"Sorry! I'm so excited!" Helen said cutely, inside she just feel so emotionless, so hollow. But she couldn't express it, no, she will not destroy her friends' Christmas.
"I'm doing your hair!" Cathy came running with a red ribbon on her hand.
"Stand by guys! Make it work!" Ma'am Julia said Project Runway's quote, making everyone giggle.
"Curtains." Ma'am Julia told Jeremy.
The red curtains went up and the music started... ...
Santa U Are The One
Sleigh Ride
just hear those sleigh bells jingling
ring ting tingling too.
come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you.
outside the snow is falling
and friends are calling 'yoo-hoo.'
come on, it's lovely weather
for a sleigh ride together with you.
giddy up, giddy up, giddy up,
let's go, let's look at the show,
we're riding in a wonderland of snow.
giddy up, giddy up, giddy up,
it's grand, just holding your hand,
we're gliding along with a song
of a wintry fairy land.
Distance
i know it wasn't our time
we had to go our separate ways
you don't know that silently i
was crying out for you to stay
the years come and go but i'm still alone
my tears like snowflakes falling without a sound
i wish i was with you now
when it snows outside on this winter night
i'm looking for a trace of you
i'll never forget the time that we've met
catching us in the snow
when it snows outside on this winter night
i'm looking for a trace of you
i'll never forget the time that we've met
the winter when we fell in love
As the last note sounded, the choir ended the song, the audience stood up and clapped.
The choir bowed and went back stage.
"Good job everyone! Marvelous!" Ma'am Julia said while hugging everyone.
"Helen, you're crying." Eileen and Zoe were by her side. They noticed when she was singing the last song.
She only nodded and smiled brightly.
"Are you okay?" Eileen asked worriedly.
"Yes. I'm okay. I just need a little time to cool down." Helen laughed a little.
"Come on, we're going to my place." Eileen said while taking Helen's bag. The three said goodbye to their teacher and friends and left the hall.
"I'm driving."Zoe said while taking the keys from Eileen.
"Why? This is my car."
"Cause the last time we sat in your car, when you were driving, I almost puked." Zoe reminded her. Eileen was a... well... let's just say her driving skills need a little practice, especially on the brakes and accelerators.
"It's MY car!" Eileen said again, loudly into Zoe's ear.
"I'm driving. Get in." Zoe said and took the driver's seat. Eileen beside her, arms crossed and Helen behind them, tears still falling.
Helen: Chapter 1
Mini Introduction: This story is a "side dish" from "Zoe". The characters are from "Zoe". I know "Zoe" is not completed yet... I just had this random idea one rainy afternoon...
@@
I gave him up before he even had a chance
"We're over. Goodbye."
She left him.
It was winter, just two days before Christmas.
@@
"Helen, thank god you're home." Her mother hugged her, saying that there will be a blizzard soon.
"I'm tired. I'll be upstairs." She said and went to her bedroom, locking the door quietly.
Lying on the floor, she wondered if she had made the right choice. Her vision blurred, tears falling down as she replayed the scene in her mind until she drifted to sleep.
"Why did you want to meet me here? Let's go to the park there later." He was smiling so radiantly. They were in a coffee shop, there was no one else around except the only waiter at the counter at the far end.
"I'm sorry. We can't meet each other again." She said with no emotions.
"Why? Did I do something wrong?" He asked pouting.
"You didn't do anything wrong. I just want a break up." She said coldly. He saw it in her eyes that she was serious. Her words pierced his heart.
"Please tell me that this is just a joke? I don't want us to break up." He pleaded her, holding her hands.
"I'm not going to see you anymore. We're over. Goodbye."
@@
Helen's phone vibrated, making her wake up.
"ABC"
It was him.
She pressed the ignore button.
There were 10 messages, all from him.
She deleted every one of them and turned off the phone.
@@
"Hey! What are you doing standing there? Come on! Let's go!" Zoe pulled Helen by the arm as they rushed to the school hall.
"Everyone, Shhhh... small meeting!" Ma'am Julia gathered the students.
"You guys have practiced so much and today is the performance! Remember... have fun!" They all cheered.
"Now, go dress up and get ready!" She shoved the students, "Hurry up!"
Helen peeked through the stage curtains. She saw her seniors and classmates seated comfortably, hands holding a brochures about the Christmas performance.
Far away, at the last row of seats, she saw him.
Zoe
This is an unfinished piece from Form 3. The idea was circling around adventure and magic, I think.
##########
“Wake up, or you're going to be late!"
"It's Sunday!"
"O ya, I forgot."
"Never mind, I'm coming."
"I'll go call the others." She went out of the room.
Zoe got out of bed, changed and went out of her room. As she was passing the bedroom beside hers, a shriek was heard. "It must be that crybaby Ann......"
As she was going downstairs, she heard her father reminding Elle to "spend wisely”. “Morning Zoe."
"Morning dad," she greeted her father as she takes a piece of sandwich.
"Dad, I'm going to the library to meet my friends."
"Need a ride?” he asked. "I'll walk. Anyway thanks."
* * * * * * * * * *
"Where is she?"
"Beats me"
A girl was running towards them, her hair was in a mess, like she just came out of a cat fight.
"Hi, sorry I'm late, Ann started her tantrum and I was the only one left to stop her."
"You're 5 minutes, 35 seconds and 6 milliseconds late!"
"Come on, Lynn, it is only 5 minutes"
"You kept us waiting! And you didn't even…even…you’re a mess!"
"Lynn, sweetie, calm down…pleeease…" Hailey stopped the argument-to-be and the three of them went into the library. The place was oddly filled with teenagers probably trying to finish their school projects. The three found a place in the geography section and started their homework.
"Why are you sitting at my table? Get off my place! Go find somewhere else." a very high-pitched voice was shouting into their ear. "Cherlyn, we were here first and this is a library, everyone uses these tables." Lynn said. "This is my table, there's my hair clip over there, in the middle of the table, in case you're blind." The three girls followed where the finger was pointing to and saw a blue clip at the corner of the table. Zoe couldn't control her temper, "YOU can't expect us to see that tiny metal!” Her voice was loud and demanding, all eyes were going on the steaming four now, dying to see what happens next.
“Well, you've seen it already, now MOVE!” Cherlyn said and pushed Zoe’s bag onto the blue carpet. “Now I've had it, you come over here” Lynn said as she started to pull up her sleeves, wanting to free the volcano inside of her through her fist on Cherlyn. Suddenly, she was pulled back by Hailey, who had noticed the strict librarian turning her head towards the geography section. Hailey cooled Lynn down “She’s just spoiled, and you can easily turn her upside down without even touching her.” Lynn has a cunning smile, scaring Cherlyn, but not budging her even a bit from the table she “adores”.
The three girls went out of the library as Lynn couldn't stand to be in the same place with Cherlyn.
“Having enough fresh air?” Zoe asked Lynn who was breathing like a balloon inflating. “Let me see, not breathing out, Hailey…… she’s going to do it the 30th time”
Lynn opened her mouth, out came these: “That Cherlyn, that Cherlyn, so if you’re the most beautiful girl in school, most “admirable” girl in school, richest girl in school, blah blah… you are full of nothing, you hear me, nothing!” She added another sentence this time, “By the way, Zoe, this is the 35th time in this year, adding up to 351 times in a lifetime.”
They walked to a cafe a few blocks away. The girls went in and were greeted by the owner, a 20 year old college student, Shawn. The girls always look for him when they have difficulties in their studies. “So what brings you here on a Sunday?” he asked and saw Lynn with the pulled up sleeves. “She’s in a bit of a bad mood,” answered Hailey with a wink. “I’ll go get your drinks” Shawn slipped behind into the kitchen and the sound of the ices being shaken was heard.
“One freezing shake, one orange juice and one chocolate shake,” Shawn came out again with a smile, hoping that Lynn has already calm down. He can never forget the first time she exploded over some book that she had anticipated.
“So, what are you girls doing? Usually you’re in bed on Sunday mornings,” Shawn asked as he knew that Saturday nights are a 24 hour non-stop for the girls. They would stay up until who knows when, and sleep only after dawn.
