"Jimin ah, what are you doing? O dear, what have you done to the kitchen?" Her brother asked as he popped his head into the kitchen.
"It's fine! I'm gonna clean this up once the cake is done." Jimin said reassuringly.
"And when will that be?" Her brother was giving a fake stare.
"Soon." Jimin answered coolly without looking at her brother. She was so immersed in her work.
"Can you be a little specific?"
"I don't know... about 40 minutes?" She said innocently while looking at her brother.
"Aigoo... The student will be arriving soon, could you clean up a bit and give a good impression?" He asked and started washing the mixing bowl.
"Why do you sound so irritated, oppa?" Jimin asked again, all wide-eyed.
"Diiiing Doooong!" The door bell rang.
"Jimin ah, could you help me answer the door?"
"Okay!" She said excitedly and skipped towards the door.

Hyesun tidied her hair a bit after she pressed the doorbell.
"Annyeong haseyo!" A girl about 3 or 4 years younger than her appeared at the door.
"Annyeong haseyo. I'm Jang Hyesun. Is this Ma'am Park's house?" Hyesun bowed and asked.
"Yes, my mum's out now..."
"Hello, you must be the student from SNU. Come in, come in." A tall guy interrupted the young girl. He then helped Hyesun with the luggage and led her into the house.
"Jimin, you should go take care the kitchen..." He said to the young girl.
"You couldn't handle it huh?" She chuckled and went to the back of the living room.
"I haven't introduce myself huh? I'm Ricky Yoohwan and the cute girl you met earlier is my sister, Jimin." He bowed a bit.
"Don't call me cute!" Jimin said aloud from the kitchen.
Yoohwan laughed at the reaction from his sister. Hyesun could only smile at the cute and closeness of the siblings.
Yoohwan's phone suddenly rang and he answered it immediately.
"Yes? I'm speaking..."
Hyesun took the time to look around the place.
The living room was small but it was furnished so well that it looked spacious. Traditional wooden chairs in place of sofas that divide the living room and the dining area. The coffee table was also made of wood with beautiful flower carvings. Some potted plants around. A few cabinets with a TV set on top of it. One large bookshelf that covered the whole wall and on it were books and photos of the family. A few paintings were hung on another side of the wall.
"...Okay, thanks. What about Mr. Gyu? Rite, I'll be there in about 20 minutes." He then ended the phone call.
"I have to go out. That room over there is yours. It's all set up already. Please make yourself at home, Hyesun. I have business to attend to. Sorry."
"Hmm? O... Okay. Thank you." Hyesun bowed and Yoohwan then rushed to one of the rooms. He got out pretty quickly, blazer hung on one of his arm while his hands were busy with his tie.
"Jimin ah, please finish up your project and do your school work. I have to go meet up with a client. Bye princess." He gave his sister a kiss on the forehead and left.
Hyesun then took her luggage to her room.
The room was painted white and only one side of the wall was painted with a light purple. There was a painting of the scenery of a countryside hung on one of the white walls. It reminded her of her hometown. A bed, a black bookshelf, a closet and a desk. There is a shared toilet too. Well, at least she don't have to walk too far away.
After unpacking and arranging her stuff, Hyesun decided that she should get to know more of the family that she's staying with.
"Umm... Jimin?" She went to the kitchen to see the young girl wiping the basin area.
"Hm? Hyesun unnie?" Jimin turned to her.
"Brriiinng!" The oven sounded.
"Yes! It's done!" Jimin said to herself. She quickly put on a pair of oven mitts and opened the oven.
"Are you baking prune cake?" Hyesun recognized the aroma immediately.
"Yeah. How did you know?" Jimin poked the cake using a toothpick.
"I've tried making it a few times." Hyesun said and went next to Jimin to see the cake.
"Really? Unnie, how do you see if it's cooked?" Jimin asked while handing her the toothpick.
"If the toothpick doesn't have any sticky stuff on it, then it's done. Like yours here." Hyesun pushed the toothpick in and pulled it out.
"Could you be my first taster?" Jimin asked while taking a plate and a knife.
"Sure!"
Hyesun blew a little before taking a bite. Jimin was sitting beside her, anticipating.
"Omo! It's so nice! Come, you try too!" Hyesun said and fed Jimin a little.
"Hello?" It came from the front door.

Another Splash: Kem Kaizen

first day
went deep into the hilly areas filled with palm trees
there was a not so small but not that big
village looking military site
Kem Kaizen
As everyone gathered
introductions were made
a few coaches/trainers
a few familiar faces
others new
backpacks were searched quite thoroughly
someone brought something forbidden
everyone got punished
everyone laid on the ground
then turning left and right
until our hairs were filled with sands and stones
then we were told to waddle like ducks
and later
crawl(?) army style into the spiky nettings and muddy waters
then slide down into the lake of muddy looking water
seriously
they did have a slide made of cement
after we climbed out of the water
we were drenched in our JPAM uniforms
all muddy as well
then we had to take our backpacks and luggage
and walk up and down the steep roads to our dorms

learned about the emergency siren
that was used during a war
there were 3 types
what to do
how to react
drop down XD
place both hands over head
to protect it from harm
and cross both your legs
I have no idea why yet
then we were divided into maybe 10 groups?
one group has either 10 or 11 people
we were given a white cloth
to design our flag
I was in kiwi
we had the name dragon fruit but another group took it
then we had to think about the vision, mission and our goal
the siren suddenly went off
everyone rushed to get a spot
but
out of 110 students
only 12 survived
others were caught as hostages
and forced to lie down on the road with their hands on their heads
I got caught as well
after getting lectured in that position
our arms were sore and the sun had burnt the surface of our elbows

at night
had presentations by group
about the flag that we drew
and its meanings
and the vision mission
and goals
then after 12 night
we were told to blindfold ourselves
and later lead to somewhere
and asked to sit down
as much as I want to experience the real thing
I was tired
and dozed off at a point
after maybe an hour?
I seriously don't know how long we were blindfolded
then we were asked to take it off
I was sitting inside an empty room
the coach said that it was a place to take cover during an attack?
he then explained
imagine if you were suddenly caught and brought to a certain place
you were knocked out and tied up
when you wake up
your vision is still blurry
like when you were blindfolded
what are you suppose to do?
steady yourself and learn to keep calm
examine where you are
only then you decide what to do
after that we were lead to the gathering place
we were told to lie down
closing our eyes with the same cloth
when everyone was back
we were led to another area
the coach said that we are going to climb the mountain
alone
at night
with no torchlight whatsoever
only a rope will be guiding us
one person at a time
we waited
some slept
some chatted away
some meditate
some just sat there and kept quiet
it was already about an hour or more
I went in
the climb was seriously steep
and I slipped a few times
but I grabbed the rope really tightly
cause
seriously
I can't see much and I don't like climbing mountains AT NIGHT ALONE
climbed up
climbed down
reached checkpoint
and slept soundly
on the cold concrete floor
when we woke up
it was about 6 o'clock in the morning
our legs ached so badly that we had to help each other
skip skip
gaming session
not meaning the innocent fun one
but the thrilling one
like in the army
with swinging tires, Tarzan swings, rocking bridge, ropes, monkey bars, floating on a wooden box thingy, bridge again, jumping on tires, putting mud on your face
yeah, we did half of it
and continued it the next day because it was late

had a face mask session
using mud from the lake
went hiking
with the face mask hardening
pretty scary at some slopes cause there was no rope whatsoever
saw leeches
reached a rocky area or peak
got to see a scenery at a very very very very high place
then walked back down
continued the gaming thing from the day before

got blind folded again and placed at somewhere and sat there for a few hours
at night
tired
slept unconsciously
while in a sitting position

do morning exercise
pumping, star jumps
too exhausted
yet we were told to do more
some continued
others stood there trying to ignore
another bunch gave up and went into the lake
for an early swim
I was in the lake
and my shoulder bone ached after awhile
looks like it's not healed since a few months ago
anyway
we got out after being called
got a lecture
then had to do another gaming session
with another set of army games
climbing tires
I got scared and couldn't get down
I was going to cry already
seriously
heights and adrenaline
are not my thing
then we had to climb the nets
I tried to do it quickly
and got my friend calling me to be careful and slow down
I was shaking like crazy
but in the end
yeah, I got through it

closing ceremony
many many girls cried
I was okay at first
but since my friends were crying waterfalls
my tears were starting to run around the eyeballs
I didn't cry out thou
yeah for me
I guess?
the boys were just standing there
most of them were just looking at us like
what's going on? why do you have to cry? are we in the right place?
yeah, the whole scene was just so funny
Had lunch

went back home
bus was old and not very nice
but since we were so tired

Letter 22Aug2012
Dear Hyesun,
I've received your letter!!! As well as the rum!!! Love it so much! I miss you a lot! I know I've been naive lately. Thank you for helping me out, my dear sister. I'm now searching for a job, but it seems like my qualifications is not up to their standards. So, I'm taking up a course so that I can improve myself in terms of knowledge and skills. It's a 2 months course. I'll be busy and all. Maybe... this could be my last letter, until I finish my course?
I'm now having a short holiday for myself before I go for my course. Currently cleaning out my house... yeah.... it's crazy... there's so many things I have and I am having a hard time getting rid of them. Could you help me when you come back?? I really miss you, and your crazy recipes too. By the way, have you invented any new recipes? I'm now having a combo of tea, orange, vodka, honey blend. My friend made it for me. He's Oz. He's a really nice cook! You two should collaborate someday! And make this ultimate recipe of exotic food!
Mummy called that day. She's still having a vacation at Mars. Seems like she's liking the volcanic scenery. She's mailed me an album of photos already! Dad thou is not liking the scenery that much. He said he preferred Neptune. Now I don't know what should I do to the house in Saturn. I bought it a few years ago for their anniversary next year. Maybe they'll like it. There is a big greenhouse and a study room for daddy. Then there's a bakery room and sewing room for mummy.
Heard from an old friend that you have a crush, is it true?
I have to stop here... I'm joining in on a new business plan, along with 15 of my friends. It's a massive one. I'll tell you when you come back!
I've also sent you a preview of a book I'm writing. Please read it and tell me how you think!

The First Step (3)
"That's my friend. He's the boss, as well as the best mechanic in town." D.O said as the two approached a muscular guy with slightly messy hair. Even thou there were grease and patches of black soot, his handsomely carved face and features still awed Hyesun.
"Hey D.O! And who is this lady here?" D.O's friend came to greet him and then switched his sight to Hyesun.
"She's Hyesun. Hyesun, he's Siwon... hyung.
"Nice to meet you, Hyesun." Siwon said charismatically and gave a big smile.
"Emm... Hyung, we had a small accident. Car is dented..."
"So you come to visit your hyung only when you are in trouble?" Siwon turned to D.O and said with a pout.
"Hyung, I'm busy lately. I got stuff to do..." D.O defended himself while following Siwon who walked to the counter to get a logbook.
Hyesun stood there and looked at the mechanic center. It was full of staffs and customers and their cars. People were constantly busying themselves. It was quite a sight. The mechanic center at her hometown was only a small shop with a boss and 2 teenagers as helpers while this place... it was many times bigger than the small shop.

"...and could you do some checking for the cars? Like the engines and all...?" D.O said while following Siwon around the place.
"Sorry man. Today business is booming like crazy! I can't promise that your car can be repaired by today." Siwon said as he checked his schedules.
"Really can't?" D.O asked to confirm.
"Really can't. There's about 15 cars with appointment. Not to mention the 8 more that came in the past 2 hours. And the 12 more since morning. My hands are tied already. But I can promise you that it'll be done by tomorrow afternoon." Siwon said and showed the list of cars brought in today. It was three times the customers they had on a usual day.
"Aigoo..." D.O could only sigh. The next mechanic was a few streets away... the traffic is crazy at this hour... besides... that owner is pretty mean and is always shouting at someone. Would you dare to go there!?
Seeing his friend all blank and doe eyed. Siwon took his car key out and handed it to D.O.
"Huh? What's this hyung?" D.O asked.
"That? That is my car key. I'll borrow you and you can leave your cars here. That's also my last resort." Siwon said while checking on one of the cars.
"Thank you..."
"Now run along. I have crazy jobs to finish in less than a few hours. See you tomorrow at 2 then."

"Hmm? Umm... Kyungsoo, there's so many cars... Not to doubt you but... is it even possible our cars can be fixed so fast?" Hyesun asked.
"Sorry, I gave you false hope. Siwon hyung said the cars will only be done by tomorrow afternoon."
"It's okay..."
"He lend me his car. Where are you going? I'll drive you there?" D.O also handed her Siwon's business card and the receipt so that she can take her car after it's been repaired.
"I'm going to this place." She gave a piece of paper to him and on it was an address.
"Daehak-dong, Gwanak-gu, Seoul."

The two were inside Siwon's car. It was well... classy... real classy...
"How much do you think this costs?" Hyesun asked. She couldn't close her mouth at all.
"I have no idea... He's got a few add-ons and they kinda cost a lot. Maybe it's more than a million?" D.O was taking care that he don't make even a tiny scratch.
As he drove, his heart kept thumping. The stress of handling such a luxurious car...
"Daehak-dong, Gwanak-gu..." D.O was looking for the signboard as he drove.
"That one rite?" Hyesun said while pointing to a small signboard.
"That's it! Luckily you saw it. Or else we're going to get lost. I've went past this signboard once and got myself lost for a few hours."
"I've tried being lost for the whole day in a field of plantation. It was fun thou." Hyesun said while giggling to herself.
"Seriously? How did you get out?" D.O was so astonished.
"I don't remember... I think I walked continuously for a few hours until suddenly my house just appeared in front of me."
"Aigoo... is it possible you were walking in circles?" D.O asked, laughing a bit.
"Don't remember... never occurred to me... is it possible?" Hyesun asked him back.
"I don't know..."
"I think you should concentrate more on driving more than about that walking in circles question." Hyesun said when she noticed D.O thinking hard. She don't want him to be careless rite? Especially after their small accident...

After a 40 minute drive, they finally reached a residential area.
"I think it's the next street after this traffic light." Hyesun said while reading the signboards.
"Okay. Turning left... and right... and right... Is this the place?" D.O asked as her stopped the car.
"I think so... let me check... yeah, this is the place. Thank you so much Kyungsoo." Hyesun said and went to get her luggage.
"Goodbye Hyesun." D.O waved.
"Bye!" She waved back enthusiastically.
D.O then drove off, only after he saw Hyesun entering the lift.

After a 40 minute drive, they finally reached a residential area.
"I think it's the next street after this traffic light." Hyesun said while reading the signboards.
"Okay. Turning left... and right... and right... Is this the place?" D.O asked as her stopped the car.
"I think so... let me check... yeah, this is the place. Thank you so much Kyungsoo." Hyesun said and went to get her luggage.
"Goodbye Hyesun." D.O waved.
"Bye!" She waved back enthusiastically.
D.O then drove off, only after he saw Hyesun entering the lift.

The First Step (2)
"Take a deep breath girl, stay calm." Hyesun said mentally and tried to calm down her fast-beating heart.
"Observe your situation." She recalled her father teaching her.
Scanning her surrounding, there were trees, trees... and the car in front of her... the driver coming out of the car.
"O dear... I knocked someone's car... trouble..." Hyesun's mind was replaying those words.
The driver walked past his own car coming towards mine.
"Really? Hyesun, just one day out of your hometown and you get into a car accident?!?" Hyesun was now mentally scolding herself. "Now that guy is going to be pissed off and you'll have to pay money to get the car fixed..."
The guy was now a few feet away. Hyesun got out of the car. She knew she has to be a responsible person. Mentally scolding herself wasn't going to help that either.
She was staring at her car window, thinking what to say as the guy came closer.
"Miss? Are you okay? Are you hurt?" The guy asked with a very worried tone.
"I'm okay..." She was startled since she didn't expect the guy to be asking if she's okay. She knew, legally, she was wrong. She had been to close to the car in front of her.
"That's great. Thank goodness." He said in relieve.
"Um... about the car... I'm sorry. I'll... I'll pay for the damage." She said but the guy waved it off.
"No need. It's my fault. I should be apologizing. I wasn't concentrating... Let me pay for the damage. Your car also needs to be fixed. Both of our cars are dented lightly. I'm heading to Seoul. It's about 30 minutes away. There's this center that my friend has that can repair the dent really quick. It'll be done in half a day. Follow my car?" The guy said in one breath.
"I'm going to Seoul as well. I'll follow your car sir. Thank you very much. Umm Mr. ...?"
"Do Kyungsoo, or D.O for short." He smiled, slightly relaxed compared to just awhile ago.
"I'm Hyesun. Nice to meet you Kyungsoo."

Heard that you've been laying around doing nothing on Earth. Do you want to go back to Pluto and stay there forever? You do remember rite? Your ship needs time to repair every time you travel. Since you're not a mechanic, it'll take you a few decades if you are to repair it yourself in Pluto. Have you asked yourself lately, do you still want to stay here and interact with the human beings and do humanitarian work like what you said since you were in primary school? Are you still holding onto that wish? If not, what are you doing here? Why aren't you making new friends with the humans? Do you not like them? You came all the way here, taking 23 years and 105 days. That's already a quarter of a human life. Time never waits for anyone, not even you from Pluto. You are on Earth because you wanted to fulfill a wish you made. Why not fulfill it? What's bothering you? Would you want to share it with me? I'm now at the dock of RumRum Island. It's a place made of alcohol. I don't know how does that work. Still doing some research on the water consumption of the population here. The people here are having alcohol as their water. Seems like water a.k.a H2O is just not found on this island. We're still wondering why isn't there any H2O here and looking for answers.

The First Step (1)
"Have you finish packing?" Hyesun's mother was at the door as Hyesun zipped the luggage bag.
She nodded. "Yes mother. Don't worry. I'll call you whenever I can, okay?" Hyesun said with a smile.
"You take care." Her mother didn't say much. Her daughter is going to another district to continue her studies. Yes, it was just a 5 hour drive away. But as a mother, who wouldn't worry about their child?
"Bye mother!" Hyesun waved and stepped into her car. Starting the engine, she sighed at the 5 hour drive. That long, boring 5 hour drive through forests and talking to yourself experience...

"Do you think she'll be okay?" Hyesun's mother asked after she was in the living room.
"She'll be fine. You saw how she was at the rock climbing activity. She's tough enough, well, maybe except her driving skills and cooking..." Her father said and continued changing the TV channel, looking for something nice to watch.
"O dear... her cooking... Hope she doesn't burn the kitchen or the dorm..." Her mother chuckled.

Hyesun was humming while driving. In front of her was a long windy and hilly road. Suddenly the silver car in front of her braked. Hyesun realized the brake lights and hit the brake pedal as hard as she could, holding tightly onto the steering. The distance between the two cars became shorter and Hyesun knew it was a bad thing.
The brakes screeched for a long time before it came to a halt.
Hyesun's heart was beating crazily. She felt her numb hands shiver.
Did she stop safely? Did she hit a car? Was she alive?!

that feeling when you ask yourself
who are you?
and
you couldn't answer yourself
a simple question
yet
you couldn't even utter a word
what are you doing?
you asked yourself
everyday
living life?
yet
when you look back
to yesterday
you know you did nothing
now
nothing
where are you heading?
you can't even give yourself an idea
this shouldn't happen huh?
you've told yourself so many times
where you want to go
but is it the truth?
you know the answer
whether you are lying to yourself or not
you know
but would you admit it?
trying to get inspiration from people
what's the point already?
you've tried so many times
and it took you less than a week to tumble back to where you were
goalless impatient laziness
these are what you are doing
where is that spirit?
then again
you were told so many times that you're not a competitive one
you wouldn't mind losing

you're not as mature you think you are
inside you're still that hardheaded naive child
