Essay/Story 002: Past

"Her results are fine. But to be truthful, she wasn't handing in her homework in the first semester," the 25 year old teacher, Miss Linz said to the girl's parents.Their faces changed as they turned to look at their daughter. She was 9 years old, an innocent looking girl studying in Fararday School. The parents were stunned. How could such a good, disciplined daughter do such a thing? "But she has been improving just a few weeks ago. She handed in all her homework. All were nicely done." The teacher continued after she saw the parent's reaction. "Thank you Miss Linz," the father said with a cold tone. The atmosphere turned gray as the parents and the child walked out of the classroom. Miss Linz sigh as she saw the child's face, full of fear and horror.

It was parents' day. The day where parents went to school to talk to the form teacher and understand about their child's performance in school. Many parents will praise their children as they've passed the exams with flying colours. Some gave encouragement for the ones that didn't make it. A few cheeky students will get scoldings from their parents. But for Charlis, she never gets any praises or encouragement even with the best results in school. All she gets is a cold shoulder from her father. A full-time writer that sits at his desk from dawn to dusk, writing almost non-stop so as to finish his work before the dead line. Her mother was never by her side, she was always on the phone or out on business trips around the world.

Every year on parents' day, her mother will always turn up, physically, but her mind and soul were never there. She was always thinking about the business. While her father never talks to her. Even at home or during dinner, Charlis never looked at her parents or say anything to them. This year, it was the same cold shoulder treatment. "What have I done wrong? I did what I needed to, but why are they like that? They don't even want to bother me! Why do I have such parents? I don't want parents like them!" The thoughts in Charlis made her angrier and angrier. Unknowingly, tears filled her eyes, making her vision blur. She wiped away the tears, but she still couldn't control herself. Sobbing in the corner, the little girl felt lost in this cold and lonely place.
